New Beauty Test Tube – 1st Qtr 2012

19 Jan

It’s a new year, which means a whole new year of BEAUTY TUBES :) I loveee me some Beauty Tubes. I’m subscribed to the QVC version of the New Beauty Test Tube, which in my opinion, is a better value than the regular Test Tubes. There is usually more makeup and better brands in the QVC version. Each tube costs $29.96 plus $6.97 shipping (plus tax depending on your state).

For those not familiar with the New Beauty Test Tube, it’s a quarterly shipment delivered 4 times per year full of 7 to 10 (roughly) beauty products. Mostly deluxe sample sizes, but the QVC version always has 1 or 2 full size items in each shipment. You always get the quarterly issue of New Beauty Magazine which is completely dedicated to the world of beauty.

This shipment included:

  • Full-sized Mally Volumizing Mascara
  • Full-sized tarte emphasEYES Aqua Gel Eyeliner in Navy
  • Kate Somerville ExfoliKate
  • Ole Henriksen Truth Serum
  • Nick Chavez Yucca Root Shampooing Cream
  • philosophy field of flowers perfumed shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath
  • philosophy field of flowers perfumed body lotion; 2.0-oz
  • Calista Tools Achieve 10 Styling Cream
  • First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
  • January edition of NewBeauty magazine

I’m pretty pleased with this quarter’s tube. The only thing that irked me was the tarte Aqua Gel eyeliner. It was completely shriveled and dried up. It is also broken into little peices inside the liner tube. Boo. I own this same liner in black and it is the creamiest, easy gliding liner EVER. This one was so dried up I could barely get a good swatch out of it. I’ll be calling QVC to see if they can issue me a small credit or something, because I’m definitely not returning my entire Test Tube over it.

Other than that though, I’m happy. Can’t wait for 2nd quarter! You can still order the tube from QVC if you’re interested (only for a limited time though.. so hurry!). Use item number A225195 to purchase the Auto-Delivery plan, which will ensure you get all 4 tubes in 2012, or use item number A221409 to purchase only this tube.

Disclaimer: I pay for this subscription with my own money :)

OOH, I just received mine too..and LOVED it. Have been wanting to try so many items in this testtube, I was thrilled with it. And I love that the sizes of the items allow you many uses instead of just one or two. I am on auto delivery as well. Would never want to miss this deal.

Yeah it really is a great value. You’re right, the sample sizes aren’t dinky at all!

Well, after you mentioned about your Tarte Eye liner, I thought I better check mine out. Sure enough, mine too! It was dried up and loose and fell out in one long stick right out of the holder. I am so glad you told me, thanks! I am going to call QVC too about that. Everything else looked fab!

Ahhh that is SO annoying! I wonder if New Beauty distributed old/outdated liners that have been sitting in a warehouse or something. Good luck with QVC by the way… here is what happened when I called:

I called this morning to tell them about my dried up tarte eyeliner. This is almost word for word how I opened the conversation:

“Hi, I just received my New Beauty Test Tube and the Tarte eyeliner was very dried up and broken up into peices. I really don’t want to send the entire tube back because of this, could I just be issued a free shipping credit for the next time I place an order?

The operator told me that all they could do was refund me for the one item. She divided $36.93 (the amount I paid) by 10 (the number of items in the tube) and told me she would refund me $3.69 back to my credit card.

I told her that eyeliner costs $18, making it one of the more valuable items in the tube and $3.69 wasn’t really fair. I again requested if I could just get a free shipping credit instead (which the value of a free shipping credit is ONLY a couple bucks more.. depending on the item I’m buying). The operator just wanted to argue with me and keep explaining the process at which she arrived to the $3.69 refund. Finally after about 5 more minutes of back and forth arguing (over A COUPLE FREAKING DOLLARS) she finally says “one moment please….okay I will issue you a free shipping credit.”

Like seriously? Instead of arguing with me for several minutes, why not just do what I requested in the first place? It’s not like a free shipping credit was a completely unreasonable form of compensation for receiving an $18 unusable item. I buy SO much stuff from QVC and to have to deal with customer service like that just irritates the crap out of me.
