Swatches: Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation (Ivory vs Light)

24 May

Many of you know already that I love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. I have already posted an extensive review on it, which you can read here. I used the shade “Light” in my review, but recently picked up “Ivory” and wanted to do a quick swatch comparison of the two.

Tarte describes Light as being for light skin with yellow undertones and Ivory as being for fair skin with pink undertones. I wasn’t able to find very good swatches of either color when I did a quick Google. I thought comparing the two shades side by side might help all of my fair ladies out who are thinking of picking up this product.

Both shades blend out very well. Again, if you want to see more swatches of Light and look at my before and after photos while wearing it, go read my full review. Both of these shades work well on me. Light is perfect when I decide to apply faux tan (which is all summer long). Ivory would still work well for me in the summer with the addition of some bronzer. When it’s time to re-purchase, I will probably be sticking with Ivory.

P.S. If it helps anyone, I’m an NW20/25 in MAC.

So, i have “fair,” where does that fall in the spectrum?

Fair is the lightest shade they make but with yellow undertones. Ivory is the lightest shade they made, but with pink undertones. Fair and ivory are pretty similar.

Fair isnt a nw20-25 complexion only.
Plus its not smart to buy a fondation thats pink based because it will oxidize orange. Majority of the world is warm. Yellow based foundations like in the NARS sheer glow line will balance anyone out and give you that radiant appearance.

I never said fair was limited to nw20-25. This particular foundation caters to two different undertones in the skin. Cooler toned foundations or “yellow” as you described do not work on everybody. Not all foundations oxidize either ;)

I have found Ivory to be the perfect pink toned foundation for super light skin. I have a ruddy/rosy complexion, and those areas that aren’t actually rosy are still pink underneath. I am a fair blue eyed blonde with ash blonde hair…..I do not think this particular foundation oxidizes a different color and yes, the world is full of pink tones…it’s one reason why Kat von D’s line is so popular, all us girls with pink, not neutral and not yellow, undertones, can finally get some concealers. So, that said, I love this Tarte…it is SOOOOO pricey, though. It does last all day and although it’s not pimped as water resistant, it is certainly is long lasting. So much so that I have to specifically remove it to get it off. Tarte’s ivory is the color for me. It’s gorgeous. Thanks for the review, I think the difference is obvious for us light gals- appreciate the different types of lighting you used.
