Review & Swatches: Jouer Moisturizing Lipgloss

30 Aug

I’m kind of a gloss addict. If any particular lip gloss brand or product is buzzing around the beauty world, I have this alien-like radar that sounds off in my brain until I go scope it out. This was pretty much the case when I bought the Jouer Moisturizing Lipgloss last week. I kept seeing this brand get name dropped in youtube videos and blogs, THEN Birchbox had to go and include it in one of their monthly boxes. I didn’t get it in my box, but Birchbox was shipping this product for free. And I had 100 Birchbox points to use ($10), AND there was a 20% off Birchbox coupon floating around… so I ended up getting this $20 lip gloss for $6, shipped. Cuz that’s how I roll.

I decided to get the color “Tender” which is a sheer, peachy coral shade. My lips are naturally very rosey (which can be quite annoying at times), so coral colors tend to blend well with my natural lip color. Sometimes, even the most subtle pink glosses can make my lips WAY too pink.

As soon as I pulled this gloss out of the box I was in love! The color is just gorgeous in the tube. And the tube itself is pretty nice too. It’s square and plastic (with some weird extra plastic running along the side.. kinda ‘WTFing’ about that. Look at the photo below to see what I’m talking about) with a doe foot applicator.

The gloss applies very sparingly. I’m used to gloss applicators just glopping a ton of product onto the lips, but this applies thin layers of gloss so you can build up as much color as you like. I usually dip the applicator 3 or 4 times before I have enough on my lips for my liking.

The ingredients have pros and cons. Pros: Vitamins A, C & E, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Pomegranate Seed Oil. This stuff definitely moisturizes, no doubt about it. Cons: BHT and parabens (yucky toxic preservatives).

Would I repurchase? Probably not. Although it does give beautiful color and applies fantastic, I really hate using lip products with a few bad ingredients. It was definitely worth the $6 I paid, but not the $20 it sells for.

The extra plastic on the side is so that you can hook it to any of their paletts. It’s actually really useful.

OMG thank you LOL! I’m so happy to finally know the purpose for the random little cut in the plastic.

Hey- I was wondering what your favorite glosses are, since you pay attention to ingredients. I just started wearing gloss more recently, so I have yet to try many. Are there any natural or semi-natural (better than total crap- haha) kinds you can recommend? Thanks!

Hi Jillian! My favorite natural gloss are the Buxom glosses from Bare Escentuals. They leave a minty finish and have really pretty colors. Sometimes I don’t like the consistency though, so I will still reach for my MAC Cremesheen glosses.
