Review & Swatches: Josie Maran Natural Beauty 6-piece Argan Oil Collection

23 Aug

I’ve admitted this in previous posts, but I’m a hardcore QVC Today’s Special Value junkie. Whenever there is a beauty-related TSV up for grabs, I’m all over that ish. I was super excited to pick up this Josie Maran TSV because I’ve never tried any of her products and this collection had a bunch of Argan Oil-packed goodies to play with.

What was included in this collection:

  • 1.70-fl-oz Argan oil
  • 1-fl-oz Argan Illuminizer (golden champagne shade)
  • 0.34-oz Triple-volume Argan Mascara in Black
  • 0.24-oz Argan lip treatment in Sweet Pea (dusty rosey pink shade)
  • 0.55 oz color stick balm in Sweet Pea (bright rosey shade)
  • 0.035-oz Argan cream eyeshadow in Sugar (shimmering pink champagne)
  • 0.007-oz Argan eye liner in Spice (bronze brown)

I paid $64.14, which is a pretty good value considering JUST the 1.7oz bottle of Argan Oil sells at Sephora for $48.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been mixing 2-3 drops of the oil into my PM moisturizer and applying before I go to bed. I will rub a little extra oil on any dry spots, around my eyes, etc.  I’ve also been rubbing it into my cuticles between salon visits. It really helps restore elasticity to the skin and knock out any dry patches.

The color stick was just aiiite. I had to apply several layers to my cheekbones before I was happy with the color. It’s not a typical cream blush stick because the texture applies very thin and sheer. This would probably be prettiest on someone who wears minimal makeup and wouldn’t be applying this over heavy foundations or powders.

The Illuminizer is something I haven’t used much of yet, but it’s so pretty as a highlighter. It gives off major light reflection when applied to cheek bones or the brow bone. I have been applying it over eye primer on my entire lid when I’m in a hurry in the morning.

The Argan Volume Mascara is the product I was most excited to try. I wouldn’t really classify this mascara as volumizing. I think it has more lengthening attributes. It doesn’t give the lashes a dramatic look, but it’s definitely not a low-intensity mascara. It has a lot of slip so sometimes I will throw another mascara brand over this one  to give it some more VAVOOMF. Because of the slip in the formula, the brush can get a little gloppy, but I haven’t found it to be much of an issue.

The “Easy Writer” Shadow/Pencil stick is a double ended product with a shimmery pink shadow on one end, and a bronzey brown liner on the other. Both shades are very wearable and very blendable if you wanted to smoke out the liner and fade it into the lighter shadow shade.

The Argan Lip Treatment was another product I was psyched about. The color is a muted beigey rose pink, which is totally me. It gives me a better-than-nude lip color that I adore. Although, It’s not advertised as a GLOSS, but a lip treatment. It is heavily perfumed and that also comes across in the flavor. It also doesn’t seem to last that long on the lips, as I will re-apply this often when I wear it.

And swatches!

Overall, I am satisfied with this collection. I think I will use up the pure Argan Oil completely, since it’s so versatile. Everything else is nice to have, but not necessarily anything I’d repurchase.
