Review and Swatches: Stila One Step Makeup

20 Jun

Stila recently had a super sweet sale going down on their website. The One Step Makeup that normally sells for $44, is on clearance for $14.99. On top of that, they had a “Buy one get one free” coupon code, so I picked up two of the Stila One Step Foundations for $14.99. Holla!

I picked this up in shades Light and Tone. I figured Tone would be darker, but they are just different undertones. Tone is a more neutral, pinky undertone and Light is a warm, golden undertone.

What Stila says:

Primer, foundation, concealer and powder all in one easy step! This skin-loving formula combines the benefits of four complexion-perfecting products with 100% mineral pigments to deliver one high performance, high definition, long wearing, luxurious formula. The medium coverage foundation is buildable and blendable and leaves skin looking flawless.

Let’s take a look:

What I love about this makeup: It’s mineral-based with NO parabens. If you don’t have many flaws in your skin, it’s claim of being a concealer/foundation in one will hold true. In my case, I still need concealer. I have some hyperpigmentation from old acne scars that this doesn’t completely cover. It does a decent job keeping your oily t-zone in check, but I still needed to blot. However, when I applied this over my Urban Decay Mattifying Gel, blotting wasn’t necessary.

What I don’t love: If you apply this too thick, you may end up looking cakey. Apply this product in thin layers for the best results. If you don’t combine this with some sort of oil control product (such as HD powder, mattifying gel or makeup setting spray) it will probably streak-up by the afternoon if you get too shiney.

These two shades in particular are pretty interchangeable. I’m able to pull off both of them, and I’m a light medium skin tone right now (it’s summer so I’m a little darker. I could normally pass for porcelain). The formula is super duper blendable, so the shades are pretty forgiving. I will probably wear the Light during summer and Tone during winter.

If you want to pick this up before the sale ends, it’s still available for $14.99 on Stila’s website.

I can’t find Stila One Step make-up tone. What current foundation would be a good replacement?

Hi Heather. Tarte’s Amazonian Full Coverage Foundation is similar. Both are mousse-like textures and both have similar coverage. The Light shade is probably the most similar to Tone.
