Review: OCC Lip Tars

16 Jul

I have been lusting over the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars for about a year now. When I found out Lucky Magazine was partnering up with OCC to offer a set of 4 lip tars plus a lip brush for $29.50, I could resist no longer. Typically each Lip Tar costs $14.50, so getting 4 of them PLUS a lip brush for under $30 was a freakin’ steal.

The colors I got are:

  • Melange (terracotta neutral)
  • Grandma (classic coral)
  • Memento (midtone pink/plum)
  • NSFW (true red)

I knew these things were pigmented and all, but I didn’t realize how pigmented. You literally only need a PIN DROP sized amount of product to give your lips full, opaque color. I’ve never used any lip product that gives as much coverage as these Lip Tars. You definitely want to apply them with a lip brush because using your fingers can get extremely messy. I may or may not be speaking from personal experience lmfao. My bathroom door handle, light switch and faucet were covered in red Lip Tar fingerprints by the time I was done.

They have several shades that are beautiful on their own, but OCC encourages you to mix your own colors together to create custom shades. I want to pickup the white & black Lip Tars for mixing. Feathering can occur outside of the lip lines if you apply too much, so really be sparse during application. They leave a glossy finish at first, but dry down to a satin finish. I love that these have a minty fresh taste and scent. I’ve always preferred minty over sweet flavors when it comes to lip products. The entire OCC line is vegan and the Lip Tars are packed with hemp oil, peppermint oil and vitamin E.

If you EVER get the chance to go to IMATS I would recommend going. David has a booth at IMATS every year and he’s fantastic, such a kind, warm, informative man.

All the colours are grate but ousboivly some are more suited for every day use than others. The whole idea of letting your creativity go wild and even make your own shade is just an awesome idea. Something is bound to come out before then but when Halloween comes around, if you do some more Halloween inspired make-up ideas I would like to see some of these colours coming through.

My best friend, Britney Spears, loves lip tars. I put them in her Christmas stocking every year. So much better than those dessert crap put out by that hoe Jessica Simpson. No offense, Jess. (I know she reads here, everyone who is anyone reads your blog.)

Haha that’s funny that coral is called Grandma. :) That’s a really good combination of four though!!!

Oh and the part that you can mix them up to create your own color is awesome!!! I can see myself being obssessive about that and becoming a ‘mad color mixing scientist’… lol.

ME TOO! I can’t wait to get some complimentary mixing colors and get to work.
