Beauty Storage & Makeup Collection!

19 Dec

When I first moved into my house, I really struggled with storage options for my beauty products. I’m still not completely satisfied with what I’ve come up with, but it works for now. I converted the 10ft long shelf of my closet into my very own “Beauty Buffet” lol. I’ve setup four beauty stations: Skin, Hair, Makeup, Lotions/Perfumes. Eventually I will buy one of those tall multi-drawer units, but for now, this is what I’m working with.

My skincare products, haircare products and perfumes are stored inside plastic bins I bought from Walmart. I’m gonna toss these and buy some nicer cloth-lined wicker bins to replace them. I want cloth because I can just toss the liners in the washer when they get grungy. I have a picture of my grandparents right there because I’m painting my house soon, so I don’t want to hang anything on the walls yet. And I love looking at it everyday :)

I have my combs, large headbands, and brushes inside a black Victoria’s Secret purse. My hair ties are kept on a metal loop that hangs off the side. I keep my small elastics, bobby pins and hair clips inside a green Mario Badescu zippy pouch.

I’m storing my makeup inside three small 3-drawer plastic storage units that I bought at Target. They worked alright at first, but the plastic is pretty flimsy and gives easily. I have way too much crap piled on top, so the lids are getting bowed. I’ll eventually find something more sturdy and well-made, but these work for now. I hate the ugly white tops of these drawer units, so I usually cover them up with the tissue paper from my Birchbox.

Primers & tools

Foundations & concealers (liquid/creams/mousse)

Eye liners, brow pencils, faux lashes, UD pigments and WnW palettes

Eye shadows and palettes

Blushes, bronzers and highlighters

Stacks of lipstick and gloss

More gloss, lip balm, liner and other lip products

Mascara, 100-peice ELF palette, Olay Pro X, empty MAC containers

And here is what’s on top of my makeup storage units

I keep random crap here. UD Naked & Smashbox palettes, NoNo, sunglasses, reading glasses, PR products, etc.

I won these shadows from a Beauty From The Earth giveaway :)

Last but not least, lotions and perfumes!

And that completes the photo tour of my beauty buffet! I’ll post updated photos when I decide to upgrade. If you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments :)

You have an amazing collection, I’m jealous! I totally use one of those Sterlite things and it’s hideous. I also didn’t measure to see if it would fit below my bathroom sink, so now I’ve got this giant thing just chillin’ on my counter. :/

Thank you! I consider it to be more of a cluttered mess than a collection these days lol. You’re right, the Steralite things are major uggs. I have been trying to find a cuter solution forever… I think these container companies should create a BEAUTY LOVER’s edition line designed completely for makeup!

    Check these out!

I have… erm, several of them, holding my collection of beauty aids. I have a narrow tabletop over the top that acts as a vanity. Very convenient.

I also have been making use of those sterlite things for storage (starvings students can’t be picky. lol)…a few tips that have made things a little more bearable in my world…

To keep the tops from bowing down, I measured the length and width and went to home depot and got a wooden board (the board only cost a couple of dollars) and painted it (super small can of paint…again, very cheap) and did a cute little design on top to sit the board over the top of the bins and have my stuff sit on. Then, to make the fronts of the bins a little cuter…I found some cute metalic markers that write on plastic (I think I got them at target) and drew some cute little squigley designs in various colors…it kinda gives it at least some element of cuteness. The other thing I thought about doing (if I hadn’t found the markers) was to line the inside of each of the plastic drawer with some pretty or cute wrapping paper so that would be what you saw showing through the plastic. It seems like this post was a while ago…so you might already have another solution…but if not, I hope this gives you a few helpful ideas :)

Chelsea. I follow your blog and love it! The important question for me is what mascara is waterproof and last and stays put. I feel I have tried “everything”, my eyes on the outer corners will NOT stay on and there is running of mascara of the waterproof. I just want something that you can swim, sweat etc. that will STAY PUT. This does cause embarrassment on my part. I just can’t feel ‘PUT TOGETHER”. I do hope you have a great suggestion PLEASE.

Thank you in advance, I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Carol! Thank you so much for reading :) I don’t wear waterproof mascara terribly often, but one of the best ones I’ve tried is the Lancome Definicils. I had to wear it during a 110 degree football game in Tucson, Arizona and it didn’t budge. I hear that a great drugstore waterproof mascara is the Cover Girl Marathon. Also, have you considered maybe having your eyelashes dyed? Then you wouldn’t have to worry about waterproofing your lashes at all :)
